Default Stripped Exhaust Threads

HI all,

I was changing the O2 sensors on my 94 850 turbo and I unscrewed the first sensor (before the cat, with no problem). When I went to remove the one in back of the cat, it came out stripped and I cannot thread the new sensor in. I am in trouble? How can I fix this? Do I have to change the exhaust or can I use a heli-coil.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Run the correct size tap on the exhaust bung. It may clean up the threads enough for you to get the sensor back in. If that doesn't work but the exhaust has plenty of service life left, have a garage remove the stripped bung and weld on a new one. A decent mechanic should be able to do it in less than an hour, maybe less if you bring the bung.
