1995 850GLT wagon, 1/4 mile from the house, at about 50 mph, before I knew it- 4 or 5 deer standing right in front of me.....BAM! Everyone is ok (except for momma doe). turned around and took car home. I might have hit 2 of them, dont know. Could have been way worse.

Both headlights and signals smashed, hood, driver's fender and door, have hair clumped on the (broken) mirror. I'm leaking coolant, cant get the hood open yet, starting surgery tonight. I think it's just a flesh wound, unless she popped my radiator. Bumper is perfect!

I think our deer limit is 5. Our deer population climbed dramaticlly this past year. To boot they are pretty scronny because the wild hogs are eating everything they can dig up. There is no limits on the hogs but they are pretty smart and hard to shoot.

Sorry to hear that you don't have collision, I have it on all of my cars no matter the age. If the car is in good shape and you keep upgrade receipts you can usually get about $3,500 for any good looking car that is road worthy.

 

What's more important than the damage is that you are still in good enough shape to drive home and complain about it.

I'm in the mid Minnesota/Wisconsin area and most people who hit a deer around here are moving pretty fast, cars totaled and some times so is the driver

Well I started the surgery last night, looks like $150 from my local u pull it will probably do it. maybe. Had to sawz-all the little hood latch hook to get the hood open. Removed both headlights and corner lights, removed fan surround (busted to pieces) going to remove radiator tonight. Have to see why it is leaking- major crack (replace) or minor (jb weld?).

Going to the J-yard Saturday, there is a white (mine is white) 850 wagon with a nice hood, drivers door and drivers fender over there. Hood, fender, door special weekend ($15, $15, $25) was a couple of weeks ago!

What's involved in pulling a door off of one of these? Dont see any instructional links...

Doors are super simple to remove. If you open the door you will see a reversed torx bolt on each hinge. Remove them
For the electrical, the harness has a single screw to stop it from turning, remove it then twist the electrical plug like your opening a jar. It will release and unplug. Thats it, lift the door off its hinges. With tools in had you should be able to pull a door off in 30 seconds.

 

Box- I guess the reverse torx is the issue. Where in the _ _ _ _ do I buy a reverse Torx wrench / socket? Dave

 

most auto parts stores have them. Shouldn't be more than, say, 5 or 6 bucks for one.

 

Before I found the actual socket at Harbor Freight I found a normal 6-point socket that fit snug enough on mine. Dont remember what size it was.

Dave: 90% of the fasteners on your car are torx. probably need to get used to that one.

 

Not that many are Reverse Torque.

 

You want to be careful with that trick and only do it on smaller sizes as it's easy to round them off if they're difficult, especially if tried on something like the wheel bearing torx bolts.
That and Harbor Freight sells cheap crap. Sorry, that is the truth but with careful shopping you can at times get away with it. Also if you're thinking it's a one time shot sometimes it's worth it to go with Harbor. I still recommend getting a quality tool that has a great warranty. Sears is always a good choice. Most of the auto parts stores sell tools with lifetime warranties too.

 

Lifetime warranty, (suck teeth) as I break my 1/2" AutoZone breaker bar EVERY TIME I use it. Sometimes twice during the same job. Lol

 

Well i've got a set of the torx drivers (red handles) thought the torx was mainly for small stuff- interior, and trim pieces. I figured anything larger was a good old metric hex bolt. I did replace those torx bolts on the thermostat cover with hex bolts though. seems like a bad spot for a torx bolt.

Radiator broke at the plastic mounting flange, still have the piece, could probable JB it, but gonna see what my 2 local u pull it yards have tomorrow. could get a new one if all else fails. Dave
