As promised, here is the outcome. The ECT sensor arrived this afternoon and I installed it after work.Turned key and the cooling fans stayed off. Topped it off with coolant to replace what little spilled out and then started it up. Ran fine, Idlednormal, and ran like a scalded cat on the open road. Got it home, cleared the check engine light, and put away all the tools.

So, the problem is fixed, and the son is happy to have the car back.

Yep, I'm glad it is fixed too. I was getting tired of the boiy asking me every day "has the part arrived yet?" Ah, the impatient habits of youth. Of course if I was 16, newly licensed and my cars was broke down, I would be anxious to get it fixed too <grin>
