I have a 1996 Volvo 850 GLT and the sunroof on the car is not working. When I hit the sunroof button, I can hear the motor trying to work but seems like something is keeping the sunroof from opening. I pulled out the sunroof motor with the wires still connected and the motor seems to be working fine. But when i try to attach the motor back to the sunroof it doesn't open the sunroof. It almost feels like it is jammed (I suspect the fibre from the carpet got into the grooves of the wire and jammed it). Does anyone know how to remove the sunroof assembly. I'd like to remove the assembly and diagnose the problem and may be clean and lubricate the wire. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Check Haynes or Volvo service manual? Lastly would be go to junk yard and 'experiment'... Also take pics if you do so, or when you fix yours. =)

 

I would check the integrity of the sunroof track mechanism.
