hey guys something funny happened today. l went for a wheel alignment today and the mechanic tried to screw me up by trying to charging me for something l dont need. he said my suspension bolts are bad and l need to change it for 160 dollars. l want to ask if volvo 850s suspension bolt ever break on the suspension. l know he was trying to charge me charge me for nothing. l want to know what you guys think. sounds funny to me.

 

Man, there are dozens of bolts on the suspension. Which bolts was he referring to?

 

he just said my suspension bolts are bad and they are four in number and it will cost me 160 for all four.

 

Maybe he is referring to strut mounts. Not sure. You paid him to inspect them he should show or tell you which ones.

 

My guess is that he was trying to sell you camber kits. As shipped the camber is not adjustable on an 850 but with the camber kits - which are basically eccentric bolts that mount the struts to the steering knuckle. With the camber kits the camber can be adjusted 1.5 degrees or so in each direction.

Before you go out and buy anything that mechanic needs to elaborate on where he saw this. I mean visibly you cant tell if a bolt is bad unless there is something obvious like rust.

Ouch!!! Those are the bolts that I was referring to. The ones that mount the struts to the car, 2 of them on each side correct? I think they are the ones that have my elbow messed up. I swapped some Bilsteins on to my daughters S70 GLT and my elbow has been messed up every since May. (Didn't use a breaker bar).

No, I was looking at the bolts you linked to. My brother has a machine shop and can make those bolts.

 

Got it, 'Ouch' as in price...agreed.
