sway bar bushing removal
hi. I have a 96 850. i am trying to put poly bushings on the front swaybar. i have the bushings but when i removed the bushing bracket from the subframe, i noticed that it is one piece. the bushing is wraped in metal, maybe melded to the metal.it got dark so i have to start again tomorrow. the only way i see how to do this job is to press out the bushing from the bracket, then remove the bracket and use a clamp style bracket. anyone have any ideas!!
thanks dave

I have removed the brackets before and reinstalled them before but it is a major pain.
The top os pressed into the bottom section.
I have pried them apart before then compressed again using a nut and bolt.
Then reinstalled the swaybar back on the car.

i've been beating on this thing for two hours. the bushing mount is not coming appart. I am going to drill out the bushing and slide the whole assembly off the bar. seeing how the stock piece is two layers thick. should i use a spacer between the energy suspention bar bracket and the subframe?
finally got the bushings off. i used a torch to heat up a screwdriver and melt the bushing out, as well as a bunch of drill bits. also used a ratchet strap to pull it off. i would caution anyone who wants to do this mod. i have built motors and worked on many different cars and this is by far the biggest pain in the ***. in the two months i have owned my 96 850 waggon, i have come to realize that the swedesbuild their cars well, but they are not desinged to be worked on. ie what i just did and the pcv. can't wait to see what needs replacing next. my na subaru is a joy to work on in compairson, but nothing breaks on it, only hp mods.
BTW i am new to this form and i have to say that the speedeness of the responce to my questions is outstanding. great form
thanks dave

Ok I have ordered the energy suspension kit and looking to do this as well on a 1996 850 GLT. Why can you not just cut the the top band to remove these? Instead of trying to seperate them?
Any other tips would be great. I'm replacing EVERYTHING except motor and tranny and thought since i had the PS Rack out and subframe dropped i would look into this.

According to Haynes:
"On later models the bushings are vulcanized to the anti-roll bar and are not available separately"
So I gave up trying to remove and change them. Unfortunate because mine are deteriorated from oil.
Check the pic.
