Default Switch question

My car has these three switches inside on the center console. One is Economy, one is Sport, and the other is Winter. I mean its kind of obvious when to use them, but i was just wondering exactly what do they do to the car? I do not own a owners manual yet so i really havent read up on it, so i figured someone on here would have to know.

Thanks

I just purchased my car, too! From the way it was explained to me...

This switch regulates the way the automatic transmission functions...

1) Economy -- the transmission shift points are at lower engine rpms for fuel economy.
2) Sport -- the transmission shift points are at higher engine rpms for quick acceleration.
3) Winter -- the transmission chooses the appropriate gear to start out (2nd or 3rd gear??? -- not sure), so the car does not get stuck in the snow.

The owners manual for the car is online at Volvo's website:

Enjoy!
