symptoms of a bad o2 sensor..
hi guys, just wanted to know what would be the symptoms of an o2 sensor that is on it's way out? i know that my car has been burning a bit of oil...i wonder if this has an effect on the o2 sensor and if it needs to be changed? thanks

I'm not expert on the subject but I think bad mileage, acceleration, etc. It deals with mixing the correct air and fuel ratio into the engine for the most efficient "power" stroke.
I don't think it would be related to burning oil, unless the oil coked the sensor itself and damaged it. But a bad O2 sensor wouldn't make your car burn oil I don't think.

Hey Wheels, i dont think it will make it burn oil either....but i whould look into it..right now im getting around 525km on a take...mind you i fill up before the gas light comes on...is this an average for this car....thanks

Oh OK I see what you are asking now...sorry my bad!!
I don't know to be honest, it would depend on your driving style and conditions, if I do the math that works out to about 20 MPG, if you're doing mostly city driving that's pretty close, my 60% city, 40% highway mpg is around 22-24 or 600 km.

Hey Wheels....for my driving style, kinda cool, not driving the car like i'm in grand theft auto!! haha i do a good mix of highway and city, but it's not always a smooth flowing highway, we drive into the city and back everyday and there is usually traffic...just yesterday i was stuck for about an hour and mostly at a dead stop...so there you go...
I have driven once straight highway and got about 600-650km on the tank....not too bad actually...i used to get that on the caprice too but the car used about an extra 30 liters about..so it did drink a bit more...
thanks againn.ciao

Tech..will the light still come on seeing as i only have 1 oxygen sensor not 2? if it does come on where there is a problem (even with 1) then i guess i'll just drive until it does come on...thanks

ya and from what i've heard quite costly too..shoot, i remember i had a really good conection on the GM side for parts...i once got 2 o2 sensors for about 110.00 cdn...man that was a good deal!! now i have to find someone for volvo stuff..hahahah

cool....so of all the volvo's that you know of or have driven which is one of your fav's? personally i've always been a fan of the old 240's and if i didn't get the car i have i would have gotten one..there's something about these old cars...

TECH....To be honest i've always been a GM guy, since i was a kid my dad always had big american cars (mostly caprice's) and i had to get one too, so i did and i sold her not too long ago....i'm starting to like the volvo, but i guess i miss the rugidness and easiness of a big V8 engine...but i also like the toughness and safty feeling of the volvo...

Hey, ya the yello one looks really sharp..it must move like crazy??? how do you find they rank in maintenace/reliability? i don't know why but i have this worry of when there is too much power in a small engine....
