T5 and R question

I highly doubt you will find an R for under $5,000. Keep looking for the T5 or a 94/95 Turbo. You should be able to get one of them for around $4-5K. If you find one any where near Columbus, Oh I will check it out for you. Then if you are interested I have a local shop that specializes in Volvo's that I take my car to. They will do a pre-purchase inspection and let you know everything about the car. I recommend this to anybody buying a Volvo that old. It's a well spent $60-75. Saved me a trip to Chicago one time which would have cost more than the price of the inspection.

Hey Jim, thanks for telling me about cars.com, I check it out today and I saw some good hits. I'm not looking to get a T5R unless one presents itself, I can get a 850T though, more then likely will need some work which shouldn't be a big deal unless it's major work. I think I might have my truck sold off. I just fixed the light and everything on her is looking good, friend has been asking about it every now and then. I told him I wouldn't sell it to him untill I fix it up a bit more but looks like she is going to be sold for $1300 cash. Once things get real serious I'll talk to my parents and see what they say about taking a loan out to buy a 850T, if they want me to wait till summer(3 months) then I might buy this geo for $200 as a DD till I get the 850. We drove this geo to lansing and back and a hole crap load of other driving and only took a 1/4 tank of gas($20 to fill up on E), and it's a stick so I would be able to practice. I don't really want to do that though because transfer fees on the plates and titles is like an extra $300 right?
Peace out guys

If I'm correct when chevy baught them they added a small chevy simple inside the globe. That caught me at first too because one day looking at a geo up close I noticed the chevy simple, never knew chevy owned them till then. And looking at older geos they don't have that chevy simple in the globe.
I'm just stuck on what to really do. I want to sell the truck because the money on it is good ya know? It's not in great shape yet it's not in bad shape. What makes it in bad shape is what you can't see, needs a rear main seal and cut the rivets off the shackle mounts to the frame and rebolt that and it would be perfect besides the rust on bed. If (when) I sell it I can either buy that geo and hope I break even when I sell if off this summer or I could buy a mustang. I can get a 4banger mustang around here for the price of my truck, it will save me gas and since I plan on building one up it will be like an investment. Drive it till I end up getting a euro car then remove the plates and tags and start doing the engine swap, tranny, rear end and all that.
I did one of the progressive insurance checks on a 850 with a turbo and they wanted like $900 for pl/pd I think it was. You can't really choose what you want, I think I said own it but still making payments which means you would have to put full coverage on it. I have a speeding ticket on my record and I'm almost 19. Insurance for me will be so high on one I bet. On my truck right now I pay almost $800!!! Anyone want to tell me what they pay for their 850? Once I am able to get pl/pd it shouldn't be more then $900.
Not to mention when I get the 850 and have that turbo, the things I want to do to it jsut for stock, like the few exterior changes and add a turbo timer and stuff, evently I might want to make it a "sleeper." I don't know why but having a turbo on a car would make me want to do that, and there isn't even a "street scene" around here unless you know the right people from what I hear. Anyone think I should make a new post in GD so I'm not rambling my thinking in the 850 forum? lol Later guys.

I'm 31, and for my '96 850R I pay about $35 a month, full coverage through USAA. Between my '95Volvo 850 wagon, '96 850R, '06 Kia Sportage (wife's car) and my '00 Jeep Cherokee, I pay $130 per month, full coverage on everything. It pays to have a perfect driving record!

It's amazing what they charge people for car insurance till they get to the magic number of 25 years old. Of course I think I had 3 accidents before that age, and none after so I guess I can see why. Oh, and about the Geo's, I have a 94 Geo prizm that is basically a Toyota Corrola with a chevy made body. It's a great car, but mine's only a 3 speed so it's limited to about 30mph, and I don't have a tach, but I swear the engine's running at 6k RPMs when I'm on the highway, or at least it sounds like it is

Hi, I'm new to this forum because I generally spend all my free time over on brickboard trying to figure out the various gremlins I deal with in my 240's. I do own a 1995 850 Turbo, which I am selling. I am considering buying a 1994 850 Turbo T5-R. I've gotten myself all confused, especially when I read one post on here referencing the 5th and 6th digits of the vin as indicative of the trim level/engine specs. Looks to me like it should be the 6th and 7th. Moving on, I'm very confused about the 94 T5-R in general. From some info I've found, it appears it wasn't even produced until 1995. Other info dictates it does indeed exist in that year model.
When I run a vin check (not a carfax-I left my password at work) it comes up as a 1994 Volvo 850 2.3L I5 FI, which appears to me to mean simply 2.3 liter inline 5Cyl fuel injected. That sounds not much different than my 95 turbo (non R), which is actually 2.4 liters. I also read that there was a T5 for that year as well. Another sitesaid the T5-R only came in a few colors, and the one I'm looking at (metallicburgundy) isn't one of them.In a nutshell here's what I'm hoping someone can tell me.
1) Assuming all is well with the car, is this model a good one (if it really exists and I'm not being rooked, of course)?
2)What is the difference, just briefly, between the T5, T5-R, and the Turbo R of the later incarnations? During what years were each model introduced, and is onemore desireable (performance-wise)than the other?
3)And, for the love of God, is it a "T-5R" or a "T5-R"
Thanks so much in advance. I have cut and pasted the url from the ebay listing below:
