Default Technical Info

I am trying to help get my Grandsons 1995 850 Turbo back to running condition..
I suspect the timing belt is bad..

I need to know the plug wire assignment for the distributor and want tthe spark plugs.. Just want to verify they are correct.
Then I want to check the timing and need to know what the timing specs are.. I want to see where the timing mark is when we are pointing to Number one on the distributor..
Any help to determine if the timing belt is bad would be appreciated..
Then if it is the belt the procedure to replace same..
My friend a more savy guy on Volvo's and I tried to start it.. It was apparent to him it was out of time.
Any info would b e appreciated..
Thx
Ron

HOLY BOLD!!!!

There's a thread in here with the correct distributor wire assignment in the 850 section somewhere. I would try a search for it.

Going around the distributor counter-clockwise starting at the top 3-1-2-4-5.

This may be helpful in finding the timing marks: http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/tech/ser...cyl_vin_57.pdf

In terms of adjusting the timing, it is computer controlled.

Ignition timing is computer controlled on these cars. Now, if the timing belt is in fact broken, then your engine is probably hosed... valves will be bent at minimum. To check the timing belt, all you do is remove the one bolt from the top center of the timing cover, and slide the timing belt cover up and off. You can then see if the belt is intact. If it's broken... it's broken. If it's not, rotate the engine until the timing marks are lined up, and see if they're in time. If it's correct, your problem lies elsewhere. If it's more than a tooth off, again, you probably have bent some valves. Good luck!
