Sorry I'm a little late to this party but the clutch in my work truck grenaded this week so I have been busy. Now the wife is telling me the transmission in her XC70 (acts a little funny when it is cold)

Anyway, thank you for the nice comments and words Quick Brick. They are very much appreciated.

I truly hope your problem has a simple and inexpensive solution. My only thought (and I may have missed readingif it has been done) is to check the condition and level of the transmission fluid.

Please keep us posted, and from someone who has been there.....I feel your pain

Dunno if this will be of value to you but I found this link. If you're a do-it-yourselfer, there's a manual that they sell, along with all the parts, for a complete rebuild of your transmission...

Hello to all,

Well, we have a couple inches of snow on the ground and Im walking, AGAIN!!![:@]

The Anvil went into the shop yesterday and they arent impressed either.

When on the ground, there isnt much forward motion and zero reverse.

When on the hoist, The Anvil goes through the gears but when placed into reverse, the wheels spin as though in drive. They spin forward.

Any ideas?????

Before throwing in a new gearbox, I would try cheap crazy alternatives:

- Flush with synthetic fluid (something I would not use in a normal situation).
- Dump in a bottle of Lucas fluid.
- Drive in L for a while to get the fluid hot (not recommended in a normal situation, of course).
- On a long downgrade, put it in N and let the car go (should never be done in a normal situation, as the lubrication stops and may damage a normal tranny).

If nothing helps, I would find an 850 at a yard. If it were me, however, I would get a rebuilt unit and try to fix the current unit. There is a service manual:

Hey, it would be a good learning experience too.
