Default Ticking Engine

My engine has a sight tick to it. It seems to be there most of the time, but I noticed it will quiet down for a few seconds and start again sometimes. Is there a way to tell if it is the oil pick up o-rings or the lifters/cam followers? Is there a way to adjust the valve lash on these engines?

Thanks for the help!

Valve tapping is normal. These cars have hydralic lifters, so you can't adjust them.

Wait for the experts to get on....

best thing i can say is do and oil change and oil flush. and use some good oil with additive and see if that helps.

switching to regular 10w30 Penzoil high mileage oil from synthetic resolved a similar issue on one of my friends car. Many people will disagree with this but I personally have switched back from synthetic oil to a Good brand regular oil based on the performance difference i noticed and many cases where the ticking noise from a engine with synthtic oil has completey gone with regular oil.

I am actually using a conventional high mileage oil now. I was planning on using the Mobile 1 high mileage and see how that works out.

I will. I think I have a few hundred miles to go till I change my oil. Hopefully it will be there by the end of the week with how much I drive.

Update: I changed to Mobil 1 high mileage 10W40 and the noise is the same. Sometimes it is there and sometimes it goes away. I still need to give it some time to see if it will help slow down my rms leak. I plan on eventually changing the lifters and the oil sump o-rings, probably the o rings first since it is easier.

The engine "ticking" is a trait of these motors.....Should just be audible enough. If it's a loud tick, then it's something else. I run 5w30 Castrol Synthec and mine has that slight tic.. Wait for TECH to add his 2 cents..

Mine ticks for a while on start up, when at operating temperature it goes away. I have added a few lifter cleaner treatments and that seemed to help a bit.

All the same. The ticking disappears when the engine gets worm. I am using Valvoline Full Synthetic 5w30 oil.
