Default Tire pressure

Quick question: I'm running a set of Potenza G009's and went to check the air pressure yesterday before the long drive home - they had 30/31 pounds so I set the air thing at the gas station to 36lbs and started pumping. When I was pumping the tires up, I checked out the sidewall and saw that the tire's max pressure is 44lbs. Now, I've always had regular all-seasons on my cars, never run performance tires so I wasn't sure what to do and put in 38lbs. Question is should I run 44lbs? I'm going to be switching over to my Nokian's soon anyway, so this is more for future reference.

I would say run something in between like 40 pounds.

I'd run what the manual says to run at.

Why would you want 44 lbs? The sidewall marking is a warning by the tyre maker not to exceed that pressure. Depending on tyre size and use (eg driver only/fully laden; normal/high speed) tyre pressures for the 850 saloon range from 32 lbs to 38lbs front and 29 lbs to 41 rear.

Yeah, that PSI marked on the side of the tire is just there to let you know that is the absolute maximum pressure that the tire should be filled with.

With that said, only inflate the tires to what is specified int eh owners manual or on the decal on the body of the car.

I would run them at 36PSI that is what I always set the Cust. tires to.

Keep in mind that the manufacturer's suggested PSI is the cold tire pressure. Make adjustments accordingly if the vehicle has been driven.

I normally run 2psi higher than the min.

I was getting pretty poor tire wear on my 850. I realized pretty quickly that I was running too low pressures all around (I was killing the outside edge, even with camber bolts). After moving it up to the 36F 41R that was an alternative suggestion beneath the gas filler lid, the ride improved tremendously and the tire wear is much better. Being a racer, I should have known that 31 psi up front was too low for a 3400# car [:'(] - AB

Just curious...

What type of racing and in which category do you compete with the Volvo?

No racing in a Volvo, I do currently autocross a Mazda RX-8 in the SCCA. You could run any Volvo in autocross, it's just a function of how competitive you want to be. Here is a link to results from 2006 Nationals and a couple of other 2006 events. Scroll down to B-Stock, I'm Aaron Buckley. It's basically precision driving. It's a lot of fun and a big waste of money - AB

Did you read this thread? It's a four year old thread that tells you exactly what you are asking. Run them at 36 psi. We all have alloys on out cars.
