Default Trac control question

Wondering if you guys could help me out with this? My traction control will turn off by itself while driving. I need to replace my brakes and rotors could this cause it to turn off by itself?

I don't know for sure but I think it's supposed to. Traction control is only for situations where you are starting out with limited traction and uses the brakes to stop a wheel from spinning excessively and transfer power to the other wheel.
Try looking it up in the owners manual.

Does the ABS light come on with it? Can you switch it back on immediately? if not, there may be a problem with the ABS/ TRACS module or one of the sensors. If you can switch it back on immediately, then the switch may be sticking internally.

Traction Control System, read the manual, it automatically shuts off at 25 mph. If you're trying to turn it back on when you're moving at a speed of 25 mph or above it will not turn back on.
So it's normal and functioning properly if it shuts off while driving when you are above 25 mph.

When it shuts off on you are go going 25 and when it goes out and you try to turn it back on are going over 25 mph ??

If you've ever had a weird metallic noise that happens when you're starting out, it's a very short metallic buzz it's the ABS system doing a test when it reaches that 25 mph.

Be aware for the different model years, the toggle switch is enabled with the light being on or off.

For 1995, its enabled with the light on.

What they mean by "shuts off" is that the system will be inactive above 25 MPH. But there won't be any visual or other indicator of this- it just means that it won't try to stop wheel slip above that speed. It doesn't actually "turn off." If the "Tracs off" light is coming on, as I'm guessing is the case here, that is NOT normal. That is an indicator that the TRACS system is shutting down completely, and it shouldn't do that if you don't press the switch.

OP: check to see if the ABS light comes on when the ignition is on but the engine is off. If it doesn't come on then, that bulb is burned out. Typically, when the TRACS OFF light comes on, the ABS light should too, as they're the same system. The most common issue is a failing ABS control module. These are troublesome on 96- 02 Volvos. Fortunately, there's lots of companies that rebuild those for less than $70-$100.
