Default Trans Stuck in "Limp Home Mode"

A friend of mine wants me to look at his 97 non-turbo 850 with auto trans that is stuck in Limp Home Mode (never heard of the terminology but get the gist). He has replaced the TCM and still stuck in Limp Mode. Shows Code EFI 335 when trouble codes were read. I've never worked on a Volvo so this is all new to me but seems like he is missing something else. Any of you had similar issues like this and what did you find? Doing this as a favor and don't really want to go tearing into something with no direction.

Thanks,
Todd

The computer may have chosen to limp home, in which case it set a code explaining what concerned it. Or, it may have shut down against its will, If you know what I mean. If it loses power than it doesn't have any choice in what happens next.

You'll need to be able to read transmission codes.

EFI 335 is same as OBD2 P1617. found a post that stated "P1617 Cable fault between AW 30-40 TCM and Motronic 4.4 ECM (lamp lights)"

Then the post went on to suggest this is a possible sign of an ignition switch issue... hmmm.

Default Limp mode

I have had a similair problem with my 96 Volv850 at 281K. my OBD2 code read 313 which suggests PNP switch . Purchased switch from IPD USA in 2014 for AUS $268 and had it installed for AUS $132. Had trouble free motoring since.
Hope this is helpful.
