hey guys l need your help.a friend of mine just changed his motor in his 1998 s70. after his mechanic replaced the engine the transmission arrow kept flashing. any ideas what could be wrong or any ideas on how to solve this problem?

 

what code does he have?

 

l just pulled up the code and it has a P0500.

 

Did he get a new ECU with the engine and was it out of the same model year as his S70?

I don't know if there would be any differences. I only ask cause there has been issues in the past with swapping transmissions from a different year car as some of the sensors are different. I don't know if the engine from a different year with the ECU could bee wrong.

That's the code for the vehicle speed sensor (VSS).
IIRC the sensor is on top of the transmission. Others will chime in with more specific advice but I'd start there at that sensor.

 

the P0500 is Vehicle speed sensor"A", you can try to clear the code with related scanner, I recommend you the VOLVO VIDA DICE Diagnostic Tool.

 

he only changed the engine.did not change the transmission. and l dont know where he got his engine from.l dont know if its from the same s70 or an 850.l cleared the code and the flashing light stopped and came back again after a few minutes of driving.
