transmission issues
I have a 1995 850 GLT automatic wagon that I purchased off of Craigslist a few months ago. I test drove it, ran great. Had many minor issues which were resolved after I bought it, and according to the records that came with the car, it looks like it was well taken care of. As of yesterday, it has had some transmission issues. Might anyone have any ideas that can help me? I am a new Volvo owner, and absolutely love this car. I'd really like to keep it forever if I could, even if it is 20 years old...
Yesterday out of nowhere the car would not accelerate when in 'drive'. Sometimes the orange up arrow flashes, sometimes it is solid, sometimes it does not show at all. But regardless, I can only make it a block or two before it acts like it's in neutral. I have to let it sit 5 or 10 minutes and then it works for a block or two.
I have checked the automatic transmission fluid (it was brown-ish and dirty), and am in the process of getting it flushed out. It was flushed out once today and now you only have to wait 30 seconds before it will go a block or two... instead of 10 minutes as before. It will be flushed out again a few times tomorrow. I have also tried a few times cycling through the gears as Robert's video suggested, but unfortunately that did not help.
Anyone have any advice on this? Please don't tell me I'm screwed. I can't afford a new transmission. Any help or advice is appreciated, especially if you have had the same issue.
