transmission noise
hey guys l need your help. when l first turn on my volvo 850 r and before or after it shift to first gear l hear a clunk noise from the driver side.what could be that noise?does that mean tranny is going bad?thanks
Could be a motor or transmission mount. Top transmission mount on the Turbos go bad all the time the rubber bushing falls apart. Up grade it if you can. Little confused, does the "clunk noise" come before or after you put into gear? The motor will torque slighty as gas is applied with a broken mount. The transmission mount in under the car. See the DIY section up front for the repair.
You can have a bad transmission mount. It is under the car and can be replaced in 10 minutes. The rubber gets softer and causes the car to clunk into gear. Also causes the car to shift hard from 2nd to 3rd.
If you haven't replaced the upper motor mount, tranny mount, and/or the front mount behind the right front tire, you may want to replace them. MAINTENANCE!!!

Here is the link from IPD and the instructions for changing the mount. FCP Groton also has the part.
