Default Trip computer missing information

I'm posting this for a friend so bear with me.

I have a problem with my trip computer, it has all 6 function, but just 2 are working (Outside temp, km with fuel in tank). the total km is showing 0, But the mechanic odometer is running good. The average fuel consumption and average speed and other functions is showing dashes (---). It's very irritating, i have checked fuses, and switch connector. Can someone help me ? I think this is common problem and someone should have an answer.
Thanks for answers and sorry for my bad English, it's not my native language.
oh and the cluster is VDO

I can find a lot of info on installing them but nothing on fixing one that isn't working or is only working partially. I'm guessing it's not getting a mileage signal but I don't know the system well enough to do anything but guess.
Someone run into this ??

93 850 2.0L

Both the total mile odometer and the trip odometer are working.

Asked MattyXXL's questions, waiting on reply.

Ok, does the cruise work? I had a heck of a time with mine a few months back and found a wire at the top of the cluster was bad. Trip info didn't work and cruise didn't work. The cluster sends a speed signal to the cruise control unit (relay) in the OBD-I cars ('93 - '95).

yes, i'm testing on moving car. All wires are good, saturday i tested everything.
I don't have cruise control. Everything is working fine. Even the Km's left till empty tank is showing okay, temp is showing. but everything else is showing zeros(0) or dashes (---). i am thinking off relay. But I don't know which one i have to test, and how to test a relay and if it's not a relay i don't know where to watch further :/

I am thinking it will be the speed input wire into the back of the cluster or trip computer part. The only two parts of the computer that don't rely on this signal wire is the temp and DTE.

Could be a bad switch. I might have one if you want it.
