tune up = pain in the neck
Ok so I am coming from the experience of working on my old 280Z. I can give that thing a tune up in under 20 minutes easy. Today, was my first time with the 1995 850 turbo wagon. What a pain in the neck. I didn't even have my haynes (cause it hasn't arrived yet). Two hours of figuring it out. I can't believe you have to remove so much crap just to get the cap off. And the rotor. It takes three screws to hold it on. Overkill!! Alright, just ranting. I am so proud though that it is done. My back hurts a bit but it feels gooood. Rotor and cap were a bit burned, and the plugs were a bit white. The only thing easier on this car was the filter as it has snaps and not screws. So I am thinking with the new K&N and plugs, cap, rotor I should see better mileage. Had the oil changed and tranny flushed today too.
Any who, just thought I'd share.

Yeah, I figure less than 40 minutes for sure since now I know the order in which to remove stuff. I haven't noticed a real improvement yet in the miles per gallon though. Granted it has just been 24 hours. I have done the air cleaner (K&N) the spark plugs (bosch platinum gaped .028) cap, rotor, oil change to synthetic, tranny fluid change, and Chevron fuel injector cleaner. I just had the car to the shop for the firt time since I bought it 2 weeks ago and everything was checked out fine. There are no codes pending or showing and the O2 sensor is less than 10 thousand miles old. I run nothing but shell 91 octane as that is the highest and best gas sold near me. I still have the fuel filter to do and wires too. I should probably replace vacuum hoses although there is no leak and a bunch of them are newish. I keep tires at 36 psi too. My first tank of gas (before tune up) averaged 20.7 mpg. It was 30% highway 70% city (stop and go) So far since last fill up Sunday I have averaged according to the computer 23 mpg with almost 50 50 driving. What is up. I know by reading posts that people are getting better than this. I have a really moderate foot too. It is a bit hilly here but not too bad. The rotor showed some wear, but the plugs that were in it looked great except that they were gapped .040 which I thought was wierd. What else can a guy do?

Just for some more info...
I just recently got my T5R and did not think that my mileage was up to par. I was getting about 20 mpg and I mostly drive on the interstate about 75% of the time. I did have a problem with the O2 sensor and once I replaced both heated (to the tune of $600 at my dealer), it has made a world of difference. My power is back and my mileage is up to almost 24. Still not the greatest, but better than it was.
I would be interested to know if anyone is getting better than that? I have been running on 93 Chevron or BP with the octane boost to clean things up a bit every now and then.

I run 87 octane and get about 24.5 mpg. I was getting 22.5 before changing my front O2 sensor.
Cleaning the TB is fairly simple. Make sure you get a new gasket, take it off and clean it with cleaner made for cleaning the throttle body. I got my cleaner at NAPA and the gasket from the dealer.

Sorry to jack your thread, but this is kinda relavent. So I need to tune up my 850 and am debating on going with a tune up kit from someone like IPD or just getting the stuff from the local Checkers. I figured I could save a few bucks through checkers, but should I just pop for the "better" stuff from IPD and the like?
