Hi all,

I have a 1993 Volvo 850 GLT. In the past three weeks, my battery has completely died (zero charge) three times. I had the battery, starter, and alternator checked at Autozone and all are in good shape. What could be the problem?

Some notes: 1) I haven't been leaving any lights on. 2) I live in Denver and it's been fairly cold. When it first died, I hadn't started the car for about a week, but then I fully charged it, and the next two times it was dead I had driven the car pretty recently (about two days) before; 3) The battery is missing the "anchor" so it can move around a bit: it's not firmly set; 4) my battery is only 1.5 years old.

Make sure you lock it. I don't know why but mine has a habit of going dead in a couple days if it hasn't been run and I haven't locked it.

Wagon or sedan ??

Also go out at night and check for any interior lights that might be on. Like the glove compartment.

Other than that you might need to hook up an amp meter and start pulling fuses to try and figure out what circuit your problem is in.

Many times it's the glovebox light that stays on due to a bad switch. Attach a spacer to the door to fully depress the switch.

Beyond that, you're looking at kissafrog's process of pulling fuses whilst reading an ammeter.

I don't have mine put back together yet but if you open the door you should see it in the upper left corner. A little black rod sticking out 3/8" or so. You can see the lens for the light in the picture. The top larger of the two holes is where the switch goes if I remember right.

You can also pull the bulb and see if that helps It's part of the reason I started switching out my lights to LEDs. I can leave the doors open for days and it still starts.

 

I personally think this is a good move for everyone. Convert to L.E.D.

 

Thanks, all. I pulled the bulb, and had them put in an anchor and check the cables at a shop. Hopefully one of those things will do the trick.
