Default Upgrading Knock Sensors

Ok so I bought the kit from IPD. I looked through the sticky threads and the FAQ and just found the generic V70/S70 knock sensor replacement. But nothing about the upgrading to the new style.

http://www.ipdusa.com/version.asp?st...173&V_ID=12472

I have not gotten into the car yet, but I just want to make sure that I have got this right.

The old style has the connectors on the individual sensor and this new one has both sensors wired to one connector. Correct? So do the 2 connectors that come with the kit have to be spliced into the existing harness on the car?

So it would go like this:

new knock sensor harness > intermediate 2 into 1 harness > harness to ECU

Correct?

I just want to get this straight before I get into it this weekend?

Thanks guys

If you look at the PDF that IPD posts with the part:
http://www.ipdusa.com/uploads/sku_files/13854_INST.PDF
it's a Volvo service bulletin showing the replacement process, so I'd guess everything would be easy. Plus, it looks like the cables have unique connectors, so you can't goof it up - unless you jam two parts together and use duct tape to keep 'em together

glad to see this thread here, as I got a check engine light for a knock sensor today. Not what I wanted to see, but I'll manage.

I did the knock sensors and PCV system on my car this weekend. Wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. The PCV system was a little different than the diagrams I saw. The line that goes to the PTC that has the vacuum line with it had no place to plug in. There was no vacuum nipple on the side of the intake manifold. I cleaned my PTC as good as I could but the grommet it fits into is completely destroyed. I think Im just going to buy a new PTC.

Only problems left with this car is when I cold start it, it revs up to about 2500rpm for about 10 seconds then settles back down. I have no idea unless the PTC has something to do with it. No CEL though.

Also, I was getting a grind from starting. I checked the flywheel and the teeth are pretty screwed on it. The starter looks fine. Man I am not looking forward to pulling the tranny on this car.

Cold start issue could be sticky/dirty IAC (idle air control) valve; clean out with carb clean. Or possibly an air leak too.

Bummer about your flywheel...

What'd you do with the vac line then? I hope you didn't leave it unplugged.

I didnt unplug anything to use that line in its place. I just left the small vac line that goes to the PTC where it was. It looks like that line goes to a hard line that runs underneath the spark plug cover then to the throttle body instead of to the far side of the intake manifold. I guess I could of cut the line to about a 1/3 of the length to replace that line. I think I need a new PTC anyways because the the small vacuum nipple on it is plugged up pretty good. Do I have to buy the entire intake tube to get a new PTC?
