Used Purchase Rundown
Recently purchased an 850 GLT off of eBay Motors from small dealer...am still going over it checking for issues. One of the main issues that concerns me is the odometer does not change,it's been at 239,828 since we got it on Monday. The only other main thing also is it seems to need a sway bar/linkage. Advice?
Standard Swaybar links:
Front Sway Bar End Links (Replacement)
HD Swaybay links:
IPD Heavy Duty Endlinks
Odometer gear:
Odometer Repair Kit

Thanks for the parts links,we had been looking back on eBay but those are decent prices too. Most people, including my mechanic keep saying how expensive it is to repair but having been looking at parts prices it doesn't seem that way. And is probably even easier to fix than my weird Caprice I just had!
Sorry I forgot to mention the year...I did it in the welcome forum but forgot here. It's a 96.

Its amazing how many standard "features" you get with a Volvo 850 used buy haha.
I had the exact issues when I got mine.. odo dead, sway bar links dead, PCV needed cleaning, ignition electrical switch broke, etc, etc, etc
I get all my parts from fcpgroton.com or ipdusa.com. I only have the Haynes manual and find the car still incredibly easy to work on. Just did my passenger cv drive axle (ripped boot and shot cv) and front brake rotors and pads the other day and I passed inspection without paying a shop $250+

Just to be more specific FCP and IPD do carry Genuine Volvo for some parts but not all obviously. ie: brake pads
On vendors, I use the 15% rule. I will buy from the local (town or city) store if it is not more than 15% more expensive than somewhere else. Many people I know do the same....
The great thing about fcp is you can search the volvo part numbers...
I also use VolvoWholesaleParts.com sells Genuine Volvo Parts If I need genuine parts and the dealer is gunna take weeks to order. thats if fcp or ipd doesnt carry what i need...

For inspection I needed front pads...mechanic recommended the ceramics though I could've passed with the metallics.
So any further advice on the dead odometer? I've got to rectify the mileage somehow so I have some sort of idea where it may be at. I'll try maybe Carfax or some other repair history, maybe that will have some increments of mileage. Friend of mine mentioned the problem may not be electrical but a gear in the odometer?...
I can't afford to be going to the dealer all the time,I'm going to have to call them maybe to see if I can get some answers before going in and getting hit with their labor rates for their guesses;
Joe- did you buy a black one? I might have looked at it. I just purchased a white 95 sportwagon yesterday with 192k. got a new timing belt in it. mine steers really tight. Sounds like you're kinda in my boat- bought from a (small) dealer and doesn't have any service history- except the Timing belt. I was wondering what service items I should do right now to be up and running.
You know, I think I'll just make a new post- Dave
