Default Considering purchase of used Volvo, opinions please!

Hello all,

I'm a new member here and am considering purchasing a 2010 S40 2.4i 44,000 miles as my first Volvo. I have some concerns and wanted to ask you seasoned Volvo owners for opinions.

I've also posted this on the S40 Forum, Hoping for some opinions.

This car is priced way below what Edmunds etal list as the average CPO price for my area. Looked at the car( have not yet driven it so I may be getting way ahead here) and the bumpers, rear deck and interior aluminum trim is pretty scuffed/dinged. Have free Carfax( for what those are worth) which shows the car was in to various dealers for scheduled maintenance and a couple of repairs one being replacement of tranny cooler lines at 41000. Told dealer I couldn't consider it as it's a bit too scuffed for my taste. Dealer says "Good News " we'll fix the cosmetic issues.

Just have a feeling based on the too good to be true low price and dings the car may not have been properly "loved" if you know what I mean. Even with the warranty I don't want to end up in the service bay too often.

Any thoughts on the S40 as far as quality/known problems/ issues for this year?

I have decided I want a Volvo for my next car as I want a really safe car and love the design of the sedans. This will be my first foreign car and I keep my vehicles for at least ten years.

Thanks for humoring me!
Logan

First forget about the Edmuds valuation, etc. Cars routinely go for way below especially "retail" books.

It's hard to evaluate a car sight unseen but generally it's a crapshoot. Still, with 44K, it should not be hard--if the car has had maintenance and it seems so in this case, what else can you want? A few scuffs mean nothing, especially if the seller is willing to fix them. Is it a Volvo dealer? How much is he asking?

S40 is probably an average car as far as maintenance/reliability. I am sure that if you buy it and take care of it properly it'd be OK....
