Default valve slap..... maybe help please

hey guys, i'm having an issue trying to discover where a noise(s) is coming from. it sounds like it is coming from under the car, maybe the engine. i am thinking it is valve slap, but if i listen to under the car it sounds like something is vibrating or is loose. can you help me out with this i know it is very vague. give me some ideas on what to check for.

is it louder when driving? Valves usually do not make noise underneath the car. If you can post a video there are members here that can help out. I'm a newbie to Volvo but not to cars in general. A knocking noise from underneath the car while idling or driving is never a good thing .

It could be anything from something as simple as a heat shield being loose...... to the engine spinning a bearing and it's on it's way out.

A little more info, ...oil leaks? smoking exhaust? overheating issues?

Nope, does not get louder when driving, goes away or at least stays the same and can't hear it when driving. No oil leaks or smoke. it's been raining and had a few cold days so can't get an accurate temp. But the temp gauge does not go any higher than what it has always has.

The only reason I have noticed it is because I'm not getting the purring/ low rumble from the exhaust that it originally did when I got the car 3 years ago it has this added noise.

Realistically, to get help in figuring out what it is you need to post a clip with the noise.

When you say valve slap are you referring to the piston skirt hitting the cylinder wall or something with the valve ??

When I didn't start my 850 for 2 weeks it sounded like the valves getting slapped for the first 10 minutes.
