VJZ's Picture, Progress, and Information Thread
This will be my new and updated picture/progress thread.
BACKGROUND:
I joined VolvoForums in October of 2008 close to the time of purchasing my 1995 850 GLT. While that car was a nice, reliable car, I wanted more power and a wagon.
I sold my GLT to one of my good friends and the following day, after doing weeks of research and checking other 850's out, I found my current one.
It is a 1996 850 wagon. Nordic Blue Pearl on black leather. All options work.
Thus far, its been an excellent car.
MAINTENANCE REPAIRS:
After buying it, I knew it needed new rear shocks and mounts. I ordered new Bilstein touring shocks, OEM shock mounts, spring pads and clips.
It also needed a new PCV system, and the price from FCP Groton is great and inexpensive for what it does. So, that came on the way as well.
Unfortunately, I backed over a large chunk of ice and cracked the radiator and messed up an oil return line attached to the radiator.
I replaced the shock system, PCV system, and installed a new radiator.
Instead of purchasing a new oil line, I cut both and fabbed in an aftermarket oil cooler.
As of 3/29/2009, the car runs really well and suits my needs. The only need that it mechanically needs is to have an oil leak addressed, but it will wait a while until I have time and money to rip into it.
PERFORMANCE/COSMETIC UPGRADES:
Cosmetic:
--Gunmetal painted rims
--Swedish flag colored center caps (Blue with yellow stripe)
--Silver brake calipers
--Black painted trim
--Small body matched eyelids on headlights and corner lights
--Yellow fog lights mounted behind the grille
--Black grille
--iPD rubber floor mats
--R emblem on grille and rear
--"Volvo. For Life" front license plate, given to me by the parts guy at Joran Volvo.
Engine performance/looks:
--Body color matched throttle body cover and ECU box
--Silver intercooler pipes
--Custom intake pipe and red filter
--Red hose sleeves
--Turbo XS RFL BOV
--Manual boost controller
--Boost gauge and AFR
--CBV blanking plate (not installed)
--iPD blue upper torque mount bushings (new in bag but not installed)
SUSPENSION:
--Bilstein Touring rear shocks
--New front end links
--Custom made rear cross brace (We sell them as well if interested)
ON THE HORIZON:
--Bilstein Touring front struts
--iPD heavy duty front strut mounts
--Poly bushings (If I can find any)
--Fuzion HRi tires
--850 R springs
--iPD skid plate
--40% window tint
--R front bumper and rear wing
--New Infinity Reference series speakers
--Full interior sound deadening and wagon rear panel de-rattling job
--Some sort of perfomance muffler
--Basic tune up parts
Other than that, that's all I want out of the car.
OWNERSHIP OBSERVATIONS:
Since owning the car, there are a few things that bug me. First, I want better fuel economy. It seems that the car gets the best mileage between 12 and six gallons. The top and bottom parts SUCK.
Also, the rear of the car rattles like a tin can over bumps.
After replacing the rear suspension stuff, it still vibrates some, and its annoying.
Other than that, I have no complaints.
Now, for pictures!

Nice shot by my house and pond

Thanks guys!
And to Jim: I'm on a CONQUEST to stop or nearly stop the rattles.
I plan on stripping the interior at the beginning of summer once my SC300 is out and about and I can devote two solid days to removal, deadening, and re installation.
I plan on using more DupliColor undercoating w/ sound deadener.
I also plan on using some sort of carpet padding.
On my old Celica, I used this stuff that we laid down underneath our Pergo in the kitchen. I just held it in place with 3M Super 77 spray adhesive.
