Volvo 850 intermittent starting problems
I have a 1996 volvo 850 wagon. a couple of weeks ago i was drving along and the engine started to slowly cut out. i pulled over the side of the road to try and start it again it splutterd and did start but it was extremley rough. I took it to the mechanic who replaced the fuel pump. This made no difference. I am able to get one trip out of it then the engine cuts out about 3 mins starting the second trip. It seems to be that the car will start fine and complete one trip. If the car sits for long enough i seem to be able to complete one trip no worries. I have an ABS light on in the guage cluster sometimes when im driving. and occasionally when the abs light wont go off the indicators dont work and the interior lights come on when i press the break pedal and the forward lights wont come on but the parkers will. please help.
the fuel pump relay is in the main relay box by the cowling (usually OEMs are red but use the diagram/part number to confirm location). There is also an injector relay (a gray one) up by the radiator which can fail leading to no start/stalls. You also have an inline fuel filter - did that get replaced when the pump was done? The fuel pump relay should have been replaced with the pump as well as what happens is when the pump starts to fail it starts drawing more and more current which will degrade then cause the relay to fail.
As to the ABS, you need to get the codes read. the intermittant light can be caused by a failed component like wheel sensor etc or can be a sign that the ABS controller circuit board has developed solder cracks and needs to be rebuilt. Check out sites like Mid-West ABS, Xemodex and rocha-tek for symptoms and costs to have the controller board rebuilt.

Do get the codes checked. As far as the ABS light, I had an issue where I would get the Tracs and ABS lights on the dash. It was a bad ignition switch. The way to check is to turn the key to #2 position and jiggle the key. If the lights go on and off, replace the switch.

yeah, the "one by the radiator" is called the main fuel injection relay. It has no reason to be there, but that's where it is. The plug goes bad on those, but I don't suppose that is your problem. It's pretty hard for a rotten plug to be plugging and unplugging itself predictably.
