Default Volvo 850 Lots of thing breaking!

I own a 1993 Volvo 850 with about 114,00 miles on it. Always been taken care of. It seems lately that the minute I fix a problem another one pops up. Here is the latest I need help with. And by the way all of you have been great with your help. About 25 % of the time I start my car I get a low oil indicator light- not low oil pressure but low oil level. The problem is when I check the oil- it is not low. I need to know where the sensor or sending unit is so I can check the electrical connection and/or change the unit itself! Thanks

Sounds like it might be the Oil Level Sender. It's in the oil pan and will run you about 50 bucks at a dealer. You can read about a repair job here:
http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/for...ic.php?p=20460

By the way, when you check the oil level; you are checking the oil level when the engine is cold, right?

Yes I check the oil when the car is cold. Is the plug for this sensor accessible without taking the pan off. I'm hoping its just a corroded connection and maybe it can be cleaned externally. this light only comes on intermittently.

Sorry, it's all inside the pan.

It sounds it would be more work then it is worth to fix. I would just check the oil level whenever you get gas. Pulling the oil pan is not the easiest thing to do it the world.

These car have a low oil warning light? I did not know that. How low does the oil need to be?

WTF are you guys talking about???

My '95 850 has low fluid indicators for:
  1. Brake fluid
  2. Engine coolant
  3. wiper washer fluid
but NOT for engine oil.

Are you sure this isn't your Low Oil Pressure indicator coming on at idle?

yep, my 94 850 turbo has one, but the pan might be a replacement, as it has no wire going to it. Just undo the 2 10mm bolts and pull straight out.

Its a red warning light on the far left side of the panel- I don't know how low the oil has to be because i never let my oil get low. Never the less the light comes on intermittently. Just a note- it never comes on for me when I am driving. If it does come on it is when the car is first started and stays on!

I had a 93 N/A years back and the pan did have a Oil Level Sensor. It was on the front of the pan towards the radiator. It can be replaced without removing the pan. bolts from the outside. I saved it when I replaced the pan.

PM me if you want it.
