my mom has a 95 850. About a year ago her Odometer stopped working. Now her Speedometer is starting to go. It usually works when shes starts driving and then stops 10min into the drive. I contacted a few mechanics and they are saying apparently this is an issue that can only be resolved at the Volvo dealer and they will make us purchase a new council..

is there any legitimacy to this? Apparently this is a common issue with 850s.

That's your solution for the odometer. As for the speedometer....i dunno, but maybe someone else can chime in here.

Taking the instrument cluster isn't overly complicated. you have to remove the top of the dash to access it, but the entire fix shouldnt take you more than an hour and a half or so. If you need a new gauge pod, let me know, I have one I would be willing to sell you for not a lot of money. It still needs the odometer fixed, but if the speedo is controlled inside the gauge, it would solve both your problems once you replaced the odometer gear.
