Smile Volvo 850 windshield wiper linkage

I am trying to get the wipers back moving on my daughters 1997 850. I have removed the linkage and motor assembly. The motor seems to be working, it is able to turn the first nut on the linkage. I can move the linkage with my hands after lubricating all of the pivot points, but the linkage does not move with the motor. Any suggestions? I am wondering if the next step is to just replace the entire assembly....? Thanks for your help!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Sounds like a plan. The assembly should be cheap from a junk yard.

Thanks for your help. Bought a used linkage and motor combo for cheap, only took half an hour to install! Wipers work great, just in time for the next snow/sleet storm...FYI, when installing the "new" linkage, just turn the wipers on and off to get the linkage to the park position. Then I just followed a diagram from google images to get the exact measurements for the wiper installation. Love our Volvo!

I've taken both my front and rear apart. My rear started to sweep and froze part way. Opened up the back and the motor was hot as it was still trying to complete the sweep and then park.
What I found was that the shaft that came through the aluminum housing and the actual wiper arm monted to had corroded so badly that the shaft seized in it.

I disassembled it and ran a drill bit (by hand) the size of the shaft through the shafts hole to clean up the inside of the aluminum housing and them used wheel bearing grease to lube it and also seal it from moisture.

The warning was it started to work a bit slower than it should and a bit jerky. About a month or so after doing the rear the front started to act up and I didn't wait. Pulled it down and fixed it before it quit on me.

Default Volvo 850 wiper linkage transmission HELP ME PLEASE

Hi everybody. I need help with something that has me baffled. My wipers stopped working. It turned out to be a problem With the linkage. I got some new linkage on ebay and installed everything ok. It worked for a few weeks but then one day it just stopped. I took everything apart again and saw that the motor had become disconnected from the linkage. Ok... i put it back together but now everything is in the wrong position. The wipers want to “park” in the “down” position and want to (but cannot) wipe “downwards” I know that I must have the linkage all wrong

Can someone give me some guidance about how to get the linkage in the correct position so that the wipers come up to wipe and return to park when down? I feel dumb here
