Default Volvo radio code help

Hello, I just purchased a 95 850 GLT. The previous owner replaced the battery just prior to me buying the car and the code I have for the radio is incorrect. The volvo audio systems card I have has the code 4256 on it but when I try and enter it in after 3 attempts it says "off" and I have to wait for it to say code to try again.

I just called the dealer and gave them the Vin #. They confirmed the code is 4256. When I said that code doesn't seem to be working and maybe it isn't the factory stereo they said they would need the serial number and I could bring it in at no charge. I was just wondering if anyone here works for volvo and could look it up for me to save me a trip.

Here is a picture I took from the top of the radio.

Try calling some other dealers. I bet you find one that will give you the code based on the serial number of the radio.

Thats helpful....

try any Volvo specialist shops around you too. they could come up with something. Especially if you are a customer of theirs...

That would defeat the purpose of SECURITY. Call the person that sold it to you and ask if they know the vin of the car it cam out of.

Thanks for the responses guys, I ended up swinging by the dealer and they were able to get the right code for me.

Now the next step is replacing this radio when my funds allow. It's near the worst stock radio I've ever heard.

I wrote my security code on the top of my radio. The way i figure it, people aren't gonna be crazy about setaling the factory radio out of a 17 year old car anyway.

Do a search for "Music City Volvo" and call their service department, I have gotten several radio codes from them.

FYI - I have been told that in most cases the VIN of the car means nothing, they want the radio s/n. And I've written the code on everyone of my Volvo radios (anyone want a SC-811, I have 2 in my garage).

I'd actually be thrilled if someone stole my radio out of my car. it would give me an excuse to go get a nice Alpine DVD touch screen...just sayin...

if anyone wants a radio (sc811) i'll give you directions to my house. Just dont steal anything else, please?

lol, once I address some of the mechanical issues with the car the first thing i'm doing is getting a new stereo and speakers. Probably put a small 10" sub in the trunk too.

Whats the difference between a small 10" sub and a regular 10" sub? =D

I was thinking about putting a sub in my spare tire well. I'll probably wind up boring out and custom fiberglassing in for an 8" in each back door.

An 8" in each back door would be nice!

Shouldnt be hard to fit in there at all, you're only looking at going out another 1 1/2 inches total. Add to that the fact that our back windows only roll down halfway, and it should be cake.

Too funny.

You could always take it out yourself on the way home and trash it somewhere. Then tell your wife, self, or whoever is disapproving of you buying the stereo you want, that it was stolen.
