Ok so on my way to work this morning i noticed that as i was driving i heard a couple of thuds coming from underneath the front of the engine. i didn't really think anything of it but then about ten minutes later it happened again and the ABS light and TRACS OFF lights came on. The car was still driving just fine and nothing went awry. Everything seems to run and work just fine. Something that i think may be related to this is that when i've been driving the past couple of weeks, when i put it in neutral (it's a 5spd) and step on the brake at a stop light let's say, there's like a soft "pfft" sound and a slight pulse or tap in the brake pedal, very very soft. Any ideas would be helpful, I'm at work until around 4pm EST or so today, if anybody could get back to me before then if this is unsafe to drive that would be great. I appreciate all the help you guys have given me, especially with getting my radio working, that was a life saver! Thanks guys I hope to hear from you soon.

What's the year and model of the car?

Were the thuds occuring when you were on the brakes?

One thing to do is pull off each tire and clean off the ABS sensor and magnetic pickups. They tend to get dirty and muck up the modules' operation, but it could also be that the ABS module is on its way out.

 

oh sorry i guess that info would help you out, it's a 1996 850 5spd non turbo 2.4L. The louder thuds were just when driving, not when i was on the brakes, the soft little taps or "pffts" were when i was stepping on the brakes. When I get home i'll take off the wheels and check things out.
