hi guys it seems like my cruise control is acting up, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, it sometimes lets go out of nowhere while engaged, and today at a stop light I noticed that my car seems like it was idling higher than usual and I needed to put more pressure on my brakes so I put the car on neutral and the rpm went up to 2k then a random thought of putting the cruise control's switch to the "off" position would fix it and sure enough the engine's rpm went back down to normal, any ideas what the problem could be?

 

Could be one of many things, check to see if it is throwing any error codes.

 

It is one of many things the ignition switch may be causing. If it drops the cruise control function and won't reset try to gently move the key a little forward or backward in it's run position and see if the cruise will set.

It it works doing this two or three times you have an ignition switch going out. Had it happen to me. Drove me nuts cruising along and all of a sudden I'd be slowing down and the cruise wouldn't reset.

maybe, cause my ignition switch is already bad since i got the car, i have to move the key back a little after starting the car or else the lights wont work and the shifter won't disengage from park. My car would suddenly slow down while cruising too but when I reset the cruise control it'll work again, I'll try moving the key forwards and back a little when it acts up on me again and see if it'll work. Thanks

 

Very good chance the switch is your problem.
