what could be the problem
guys l have been loosing coolant lately. not much but l keep topping up my coolant every week.
there is noo visible leaks, radiator is OEM new ,no visible coolant in oil, no oil in my coolant reservoir, suspected my heater core but my drivers side mat is not wet. l smell something funny when l turn on my heat, what could possible be the cause of the coolant loose? any ideas? thanks

Leaking heater core. If it leaks it will usually run down the floor under the carpet. You'll never see it but you can usually smell it.
You may also have a leak somewhere. My buddy was loosing coolant at the bypass hose from the t-stat to the coolant tank. His low level light would come on. I cranked it up and when it got warm I could see it misting out of the connection at the tank.
As you may remember, our S70 had a bad head gasket and the fluid was escaping out of the coolant tank cap. The system was filling up with combustion gases and forcing coolant out of the tank cap while hot. When I pulled over to check it the tank was above the max mark after 10 minutes of highway driving.
Other than that you have a leak somewhere.

I would suspect the heater core..
Keep in mind there is a small drain and those under mats will hold almost a gallon of coolant.
My advise pull out your carpet and check, you might have to pull the drain hose and roll up a paper towel in there but Im sure youll find that som where down there is where its leaking..
Yours is a turbo right.... it might be a pin hole leak at the turbo lines or heater core inlet lines and outlet lines also.

you guys are the best, thanks for the advice, yes mine is a turbo, l will remove the carpet and check that out for leaks, thanks matty
RSPI, l had a leak at the expansion tank and replacing the hose solved it. my coolant doesnt force coolant out of the tank. l suspected my heater core. what does it mean when my climate control unit lights flashes a couple or three times? what does it mean?thanks guys.

You should add your cars basic info to your signature. That way when you post the info's there.
The flashing lights indicate a problem in the system just like a check engine light coming on. It could be anything in the system. If you have a 95 or older car you can read the codes off the panel under the hood.
If it's 96 or newer I think you're stuck taking it in to have them read.
If you're smelling something sweet when you turn the fan on it's antifreeze in that core area. You might want to pull the carpet back and see if you notice any leaking.
Since you have a turbo there is also an extra metal tube and hoses on the back of the engine that take coolant over to the turbo. Make sure one of them isn't getting old and cracking.

93-95 you can use the odb1 diagnostic box...
96-98 you can buy a vag-com cable and use vol-fcr to read and clear the codes.
OR if your in DFW area get in touch with DragosD on volvospeed he just bought a VST set up
He is offering free diagnostics in the DFW area ---->Post A Picture Of Your Latest Purchase - Page 793 - Off-topic/Deleted Posts - Volvospeed Forums - Page 793
