So like the topic says, 1997 850 w/ 5-speed it's N/A so not a turbo, it's got just under 100k on the odometer.

Thoughts? If everything is perfect what would you pay? It doesn't have leather so that is a downside.

I'm booting the wife's POS VW out of the family and getting another 850, just looking for one that she would like. Not sure about the 5-speed for her, maybe I can give her my wagon and take the 5-speed for me .

On the 5-speed how long will those tranny's last? The reason I don't want another auto is I don't want any repeats of my problem, they are expensive to replace! Would the manual just need to have the clutch done or are there any other typical failures in the tranny?

Those tranny;s hold up alot better than the auto's.
If the car is really clean the price is pretty decent.

On another note I am trying to locate a valve body to put in mine and see if it fixes it before I decide to ditch the auto all together and convert to a 5 speed.

Interesting does a new valve body replace all 4 solenoids?

I told my wife about the car and she says hell no it's older than her current car (it is, by 1 year) and she said my car is "falling apart". So somehow I need to convince her that we need to be an all 850 family. Not sure how I'm going to do it.

Also I found some S60 R's, those look pretty nice, I bet she'd go for that but at around $20k they are just a bit more expensive!!! Maybe when I win the lottery...

Hey also wanted to say I wonder if it is pressure related.

After I did my drain/refills I started getting a kinda "clunky" shift from 3->4. I noticed if I floored it and it shifted around 3500 RPM and above the shift was smooth. Below that it clunks into gear. I haven't gotten the dropping into neutral thing in awhile but it's been pretty cold here and I don't really drive it around town much, so summer will be the test if it makes it that far. Colder fluid = thicker fluid = more pressure at first. Also I don't get the clunk from 3->4 when cold at first, only after the first 5 minutes or so.

I read that the 4th solenoid that provides pressure regulation isn't replacable but maybe if you replace the whole valve body it is replaced with that. Still not sure what a valve body is either but it sounds important!

Hopefully the wx has gotten warmer it was 70 today in Raleigh!!!

The Valve body houses the solenoids. I think it is pressure related but there is like a solenoid or something hanging up.
Every upshift on my car is smooth. If the average person was riding with me and I was driving moderitly they would hardly even feel it shift it is so smooth. all the downshifts are smooth except the one going into first.

I wish I had a nice diagram showing the ATF path when upshifting through the gears then downshifting and I would be able to figure out what is causing it.

It is just getting annoying and I am ready to pull it and convert to a stick then take a sledge hammer to it till it is pieces small enough to put in a garbage bag and throw away.

I'm home all week so I'm going to buy a block tester to see if my head gasket is blown, if it's not I'm looking for another tranny. If it is, f-it, I'll drive it till it dies. Then I'll have a parts car!!!
