What does V70 mean?
I have a 95 850 GLT wagon. I understand 8 series body with a 5 cylinder engine. (just like my old 2 series 4 cylinder 240, God rest her soul) OK, got it.
But the V70 is the newer 5 cylinder version, where does the term V70 come from? Same inline transverse 5 banger. Does V indicate wagon and S indicate sedan?
Just wondering...Dave

Variant- ok, I see. I thought a wagon was called a Combi across the pond or maybe thats down under.
So I guess a S70 and a V70 are the same except for Sedan and Variant. Engine, front exterior trim (fenders, lights etc) interior bits etc, the same for both?

Pretty much same everything. Think of it like the Camaro / Firebirds of old. They were the same car with different trim. Some times the springs and shocks might be different due to a different weight capacity and distribution but I'm not sure on the 70 series Volvo if it's different or the same. I know when I bought sport springs for my 850 they offered different springs from sedan to wagon.
V = Versatility. I sometimes fold the seats down in my T-5R Wagon and tell me wife we have the roomiest 2 seater in town.
