Different turbocharger? Different exhaust? ECU?

Huh? I think you mean the R over the T5. The answer is ECU, it's set to boost higher. Also, it's for the '95 - '97.

Is the 95 Turbo basically the same thing as a T-5?

So if I were to acquire an ECU from an R, and plug it in, I'd get the extra horses?

Yes. They sell the R ECU's on eBay and sometimes in the forum.

You can also get a ECU tune to do better than the R's for less than $400 I think. Most do an ARD I believe.

Someone chime in here.

I've got an ARD Green tune on my '96 R wagon. Good for 17psi, plus some other features that Lucky and I discussed. I still have the original ECU for my car, but no longer need it. PM me if you're interested. On the other hand, if additional engine mods are in your future, I think you'll be very pleased with Lucky's work. He's a very knowledgeable guy, and doesn't hesitate to answer questions and work with customers.

Turbo is 9.6psi - 220hp
R is 10.5psi - 240hp

95- T-5R use a Motronics M4.3
96+ 850R use a Motronics M4.4

They are not interchangable due to the A/C but they can be modified to work.

If you have a 95 you have a M4.3 with a designation of 072. You should be searching for the same year or go for an actual tune (which you would be much happier with)

ARD tune will put a pretty big smile on your face, that's for sure.

EGR is a difference but not a show stopper. The A/C is actual pins/wiring that has to be swapped.
