Default what type of roof rack for 97 volvo 850?

i searched the threads and saw that thule is a recommended interchangeable brand. any others that are less expensive? mainly want it to carry cargo. also, if thule is the way to go, what specific rack works with a 97 850 sedan? is it easy to pull off the black trim piece to install the rack?
thanks a lot

The OEM roof rack for the 850 and early V70's are called Euro Rails. You simply pull off the black strips starting at the windshield and install the new strips that come with the Euro Rails. It's very easy and when you take your stips off you will see exactly where the Euro Rails bolt in.

I think they are all the same for 850's and V70 wagons up to 99 and possible 00, but not certain about that. Try and get a set from a 98 or 99 V70 cause they will not peal like the 850 ones and they have the rain deflector on the side of the windshield.

JimKW, are talking about the factory wagon roof rack rails that run the length of the roof? What peeling are you referring to?

I have the 850 wagon, and I am also interested in the what the rain deflector looks like. Do you have any pics?

I have the roof rack rails on my wagon. I have installed three thule cross bars that clamp onto the rails. The reason for the 3 bars, is I have my tandem bike rack mounted out board of the car, a big gap for my thule cascade box, then four additional bike racks. The third bar works for the thule box and the other two pick up the tandem mount and various alignments for the additional bikes.

Default 850 roof rack install

Jim K- I bought a pair of the Euro rails at my junkyard for 13 bucks for my 95 850 wagon, but my car has 4 plastic blocks (I assume the mounting holes are underneath) and no mounting holes for the rear. ? Guess I need to fabricate some sort of mount for the 2 rears. Any helpfull ideas? I figured every wagon would be the same, and I think the donor car was a 95. Thanks, Dave

Default Factory rack install

I just got a factory rack and crossbars from the junkyard for $40. Took all of the trim too including the stuff on the windshield edges. Half hour later I had the entire thing installed on my car. All of the bolt holes were there (under plastic blocks and sealant tape) Took the rack off of a 98 V70XC and put it on my 96 850. Good luck!
