Default What Wheels will fit a 97' 850?

I want to install new wheels and tires on my 97' 850. I need to know how to figure out which wheels will fit, and how big the wheels can be without casuing a problem. If someone can shed some light on installing plus size wheels and tires that would be really helpful. Thanks.

Try finding a set of 850R rims.
I have heard and seen rims from a Ford taurus will fit but stick out the sides a little.

I am interested in changing style of wheels too.

I visited the dealer lot tonight.

I liked MY05 S80 T5 9-spoke 16 inch.
I liked MY05 S60 T5 5-spoke 16 inch.
I liked MY05 S40 (I thought that S40 had 4-lug, maybe S60) AWD T5 5-spoke 16 inch.
I liked MY99?? V70R 5-spoke 16 inch.
I liked MY01?? S60 7-spoke 15 inch.

Thanks for the advice. I dont actually want to find volvo wheels that will fit, I want to find aftermarket wheels that can fit on the car based on the amount of lug nuts, etc. I mostly want to make sure that the wheels I buy can be bolted on to my car. I know that there are 4 and 5 lug wheels for volvos, so I guess my question is this: will all 4 or 5 lug aftermarket wheels fit (given the right diameter), or do I need some special kind of wheel to make it work? Any help would be most appreciated.

You will need to find ones that match the lug pattern.

I also beleive the Ford taurus rims have the same lug pattern. They will stick out the fender a little.

I am shopping for new wheels, too.

What I have learned from...
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...997&vid=000619

We have 15 x 6.5 and/or 16 x 6.5 wheels from the factory.
We have 5-108 bolt pattern -- same as Ford and Lincoln Mercury
We have 43 mm offset -- per TECH's post, must be greater than Ford and Lincoln Mercury

I am lost. All of the aftermarket wheels look the same to me.

I am leaning towards these...
16x7 9 Hole ICARUS
http://www.wheelcollision.com/wccpix/70250.JPG

I just don't know what tire size to use...
a) 205/55/16 like what is on 850 Turbo
b) 215/55/16 like what is on 960/S80
c) 205/60/16 split the difference between the two??

Also, I like these...
15x7 Mesh, Cvrd Lugs
http://www.wheelcollision.com/wccpix/70170.JPG

I just don't know what tire size to use...
a) 195/65/15 like what is on 850
b) 205/60/15 just for a little larger tire??

This one seems cool. You know it scares me that there are so many wheels listed for our cars in the 200.00 range. They are as cheap as wheels for japanese cars. Is the quality really bad?

Thanks for the info. I know I am getting closer now. My wheels have 5 lugs, so i know that I need 5 lug wheels. I am considering 17 or 18 inch wheels for my 850, and have found that 17 inch wheels require a 205/40 tire and 18 inch wheels require a 215/35 tire. So i think that as long as I find a 5 lug wheel and match the tire siz with the right wheel size I should be all set. Please let me know if this does not seem like it will work. Thanks in advance for any help.

I also found a great website for finding wheels that will fit your make and model car. Apparently they offer some kind of a refund or exchange program if the wheels dont fit, as they say that their experts check the fitment for all their wheels. Check it out for yourself at www.wheelmax.com Hope this helps

That Will NOT work!

You just can't put any 5 lug wheel on your 850 different cars have different bolt patterns.
I think?? the 850 has 5 X 4.25(108)bolt pattern w/ 43mm offset, and because of that your options will be limeted trying to find a aftermarket wheel for your car.

Your car will look 10* bettr with some factory 17/18 volvo wheels, like volans, comet or titan and you don't have to worr about fit!

Good luck.

So..... I need a wheel that matches the lug pattern, 5x108 witha 43mm offset. I guess my only question now is are there 5x108 wheels that have different offsets? Please let me know if you have any idea, thanks.

Are there any other makes that use 5 x 108 bolt pattern?

I visited several tire and wheel dealer websites. The only other make that I found with 5 x 108mm bolt pattern was Lincoln, Ford, and Mercury. Needless to say that they have a different offset. I don't want my car looking like it is mounted on roller skates. Also, I am concerned about extra stress on front wheels bearing from using improper offset.

My conclusion -- Use Volvo wheels from newer model years.

Ok, so let me know if I am on the right track. If you are replacing the stock wheels with wheels that are the same width, you will need to use the same offset, 43mm. If you are going to get wheels that are wider than the factory wheels (usually 7") then you can use a smaller offset. For example, I believe that an 18x7.5 inch wheel that has a 5x108 bolt pattern with a 38mm offset could be used, as the wheel is wider than the original factory wheel and will make up the difference in width. The only issue with that is when I do the conversion, Millimeters to Inches, 5 millimeter = 0.1968504 inch, which would mean that the 18x7.5 wheel is 1/3 of an inch too wide. Woud this mean that it would not fit at all? I think I still need some guidance, if there is anyone who can help. Thanks.

I am not in the aftermarket wheel/tire business. However, I am familiar with many makes of cars that were offered with different sized wheels. As you can see, all of the front wheels have the same offset.

For example, Mitsubishi Starion wheel options are:

Wheel Offset
6"x14" ----- 18mm (.7 in)
6.5"x15" --- 18mm (.7 in)
7"x16" ------ 18mm (.7 in)
8"x16" ------ 18mm (.7 in)

----------------------

BTW, looking at your other thread...

we have 15x6.5, not 15x7, wheels from the factory.

So does that mean that a wheel with a different offset than what the factory used will not fit? I was told by a service rep at a wheel and tire shop that a wheel that is slightly wider than the original could have less of an offset, becuase the extra width of the wheel makes up the difference in distance. Does he know what he is talking about? I mean it makes sense, but I know it cant be that simple.

Findout the offset for your car and bolt pattern, most places that sell rims already have this and can tell you what rims fit on what car. This is for aftermarket rims, if you want factory rims. Call your local dealer and ask the parts tofindout the offset for your car. Then ask which other cars have that offset and size. Just remember the offset that works on a 16" rim might not work on a 17" rim, if you are changing rim size ask for the offset for that rim size.

I have set of 16" Columbia's for sale. The came off my 94 850 Turbo as the origianl wheels. One of them has a chip out of it that could be fixed. As far as I remember the other three are fine. They probably only have about 20K on them before I wife-proofed the car with 15" wheels.
