Default Will my 850 ever make it to 300,000 miles?

I have a '97 850 that has been in the family since it was new. I'm hoping to get it to at least 300,000 miles. I'm almost ready to role over to 270 K and my odometer and trip both quit working, but the speedo still works. I hoping there is a possible cheap/easy fix. Kind of a pipe dream considering no matter what I'm probably gonna have to take apart the dash which I'm sure is not easy. Any ideas, please? Not really an essential component but still nice for those oil changes. Thanks.

Follow what Tech posted up and it's a breeze. I loved how easy it was to do mine.

It's not hard to do at all. It takes MAYBE an hour to get the dash off your first time. Also, IPD sells the replacement gear for 25 bucks. Common problem and definitely not hard to replace that. Good luck....if you have taken care of that car, 300K miles should be just about broken in.

I've heard that there's two gears back there and it makes sense to replace them both at the same time, but I'd think that taking the dash apart gets easier and easier so it's not necessary to do both.

Thank you to everybody for your help. I changed both gears and odometer/trip work fine now. It was pretty easy to do. Found a tiny little tooth broken off of the smaller gear. Unfortunately now I have to take it apart again because for some reason after doing the repair now one or more of my dash bulbs are not working. Can't see my speedo at night.

ooh, we should have suggested that you swap the light bulbs whilst you were in there. Sorry.

Did you set the odometer to the proper mileage? If not, head to a dealer so they can read it for you and you can set it by hand.

Yup!! Take good care of her, and she'll take good care of you. MVS has a link to a Denver Volvo dealer selling an 850 with 500K miles on it!

http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/201...riginal-trans/

My ride has just crested over 200K, and I was unable to properly maintain her for the last few years (I'm just starting to get her back in shape). When I was married, the wife never checked the oil - once I pulled the dipstick and it was bone dry! I had to put in FIVE quarts (and it holds six)!

Needless to say, they're solid cars that can last a good long time.

(notice I still have the car but not the wife?)

Thats the reason the dealer is selling it ! It has 500k and the preveious owner knew it was on its last leg.I doubt seriously anyone would buy a car with 500k.Maybe for $20 lmao

I love VOLVO but no car with 300k is just getting broken in.Most cars wont even make it to 300k.
With that said VOLVO is the best car ever made.@ least the 850 TURBO IMO

Took it apart again today to change the bulbs. Now I wish I would have gotten a bulb for the Clock/Temp display. Could've changed that too. Been out for long time, not too important though I have a flash light, lol. Think I did it in half the time. Thanks again to everyone for info.
