Default wire to the test ports?

What is the function of the wire that you plug into the test points in the modules under the hood? Is it a ground? the wire on mine broke off so I can attach a wire to ground for testing if that is what it is.

Are you talking about the "fly-wire" jumper that goes from the front of the test port into the sockets on the 94/95 850s? (mine broke off too so I have to hold it when reading codes). The diagnostic ports have different functions depending what system you want to work with (ie read codes for the ignition, reset the service light etc).

That's the wire I am talking about and I knew it was getting weak but this time when I went to use it it just fell off. If its a ground wire then that is easy enough to fix.

Got a chance to test the little bit of wire sticking out and it is a power wire. Got 12 volts to ground. I guess I could just run a wire from the + side of the battery to the various test ports.

pls share if you decide to try a repair. I'm curious about this. I was thinking of looking at opening up the diagnostics port to see if there's a way to solder the lead back on or grab a part from a wreck.
