Default dealing on a new c30

The first c30 came to town and the dealer called me as it was being unloaded from the carrier. It has a Swedish flag on the roof and my bride was excited.

The next project was to negotiate. The auto was being sold for sticker.............no dealing. Ok, no big deal, that happened in 2001 on a new auto we purchased. So we then discussed trading in a less than one year old Mazda MX-5 with appx 6000 miles. I paid $26,000.00 for the auto and the dealer generously offered me $16,000.00 for it................. The Volvo dealer is also the Mazda dealer.

Thanks, but no thanks.

Sounded like the $16k was a good trade in value but he declined it because of the trade in value of the Mazda.

You are correct about the first c30 and the bugs that are inherent...........probably. I bought the 1st Mazda ProtoV in town...........right off the truck in 2001. It was a 2002 and it promptly rusted! It was of course under warranty but still.

To take a $10,000.00 bath on a hot selling less than one year old MX-5 is just too much! There are no 2006 MX5's within 100 miles of my city and so the dealer would be selling it for at least $22,000.00. The dealer wanted sticker for the C30 and so he would be the winner on both ends.

I'm now looking at an Infinity G coupe. The dealer will deal with me on it and it too is a new model

No...............never got to that point. The reviews that I have read on the c30 give it kudos for performance and integrity. Unfortunately I never got to the test ride simply because of the low offer on the proposed trade-in. Incidentally, the owner of the dealership called and wanted to do "the right thing" to save a customer who has purchased 4 autos from him in 6 years.

I hope the first C30's dont have too many bugs cause I just bought one.FYI ALL the C30's that were initially delivered were delivered as demo's only and were blue with the Volvo flag on top.Volvo was tweaking the BMW Mini with this marketing ploy.Volvo wants everybody to order their new C30 and have it built the way they want it.The dealer I bought mine from is dealing and actually discounting some to get some on the street.BJ

It is not the cost of the vehicle new that bothered me................. It was the 'offer' of $16,000.00 for my 'not-less-than-one-year-old' vehicle that I had paid $26,000.00 for. Apparently the dealer thought that since I generally pay sticker for my autos he could depreciate the vehicle he sold me last year by $10,000.00. Unbelievable......I guess the sales guy thought that I would negotiate against myself.

Sounds like somebody was looking to make a short term buck off a long term customer. Not very smart.BJ

Quick update on the C30.Have put about 100 mile on mine. Mine is a Version 2 with all the goodies.First impression is that the care is very quiet, handles well, and is very quick.I have a 6 speed and by the time u run thru the gears getting on the freeway u r at 80mph.Corners well and the 6 speed has a very short throw so shifting is no issue.I am glad to be back in a stick again.Contols are easy to reach and pretty straightforward.Rear seat is plenty big enough for 2 adults but getting into it requires a little work.I am very pleased so far and will keep u folks posted if u want meto .Thanks.BJ

Quick update on the C30.About 2000 miles on mine and car remains a blast to drive. It also gathers a crowd wherever it goes and folks cant believe it is a Volvo.Had the factory lowering springs put on mine and it handles even better even though the ride is a bit harsh.Car is getting 24mpg in town and 27-28 on the road.If u get a chance go drive one.Amazing quick for the lite pressure turbo.I think u will be very impressed. Will keep everyone posted.BJ
