Power Steering Pump Whine
Hello, I'm relatively new to Volvos, hoping someone may be able to assist me here. I've got a 2009 C30 T5. It has a very loud whine from the power steering pump, particularly noticeable at idle and slow speed turning (like parking.) No affect on driveability as of now, but it's very annoying and rather embarrassing.
After removing the passenger side headlight I checked the fluid level and it was fine. I then removed the reservoir cap and turned the wheel lock to lock several times in an attempt to bleed out any air in the system, but it's still making the same noise.
Assuming it's the pump that it is the problem, I'm hoping someone can help me out with understanding part availability. New replacement pumps are more than $500, which frankly, seems absurd. I'd rather take my chances with a used junkyard unit for $30. The problem is, C30s are quite rare and don't really show up in the junkyard. I'm wondering if I can take a used pump off an S40 / V50 / C70 instead.
According to FCP Euro, the part number is 36001485- https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/vol...001485#fitment
It says that the pump will fit 2004-2010 S40s, 2005-2011 V50s, 2006-2011 C70s, as well as 2008-2011 C30s.
However, for the S40/V50/C70, it has a fitment note saying "When replacing this pump for the 1 st time, you must also replace the power steering pump wiring harness,Please purchase 1-pc of 30775461 separately."
Does this mean that I won't be able to use the pump off an S40/V50? It sounds to me like the 36001485 pump is a revision of an earlier designed part, but it seems very peculiar that my 2009 C30 would have the newer revision (ie- not requiring a harness) whereas a 2010 S40 or 2011 V50 would have a fitment note about requiring the 30775461 harness.

have you used car-part.com to search yards nationally?
I think you'd need to see what part number is listed on your C30 and then go see what is the part number on a similar year S40 - maybe you can grab the S40's wire harness also - not sure why they'd be different so it may be worth a look.
