My wife was oversteering our car and power steering fluid went everywhere,i was away working at the time so i got it towed to local volvo dealer who declared $2400 and new pump from sweden and you can drive away.
Got my mate to retreive the car to his place and when i got back from away work i went to wreckers and got secondhand pump for $120 and 10 mins to install and good as gold.
Also got the other pump and pulled it apart and found case o-ring blown so got a new o-ring for $2 and put it in and have a spare pump now.
The point being that old school mechanics that can actually repair cars are gone and now we have monkeys who know how to replace only and charge a fortune to do what any pre-schooler could do.
And i am not even a mechanic,i am an electrician.
