Default proximity key

Volvo has the worse proximity key simply because it is ungainly! I wonder if one cuts off the protruding part (spear) on the fob, will the device still work? I use the 'dummy' key in the ignition slot and keep the fob in my pocket..................but it would be nice if I was able to saw off the protruding 1 1/4 inch 'spear'. I have had three other vehicles with a proximity key and none of them had such an ungainly fob!

Yep, you can, and it still works. There are no electronics in the protruding "key" part.

I found this out when my dog ate my key. I got it away from him when I realized what he was chewing on, but he had already snapped off the protruding portion. I covered the little hole up by supergluing a scrap of black plastic over the hole that was left, and it's been fine for the last 2 years.
