you have a belt and not a chain. In earlier volvos the belt was to be changed around 50,000 miles. The new belts today are made out of much better synthetic material. I within the past three months purchased two new Volvos............C-30 with Polestar and a S-60 AWD. I asked the dealer's head mechanic about the belts and he related that you can go as far as 90,000 miles.

90,000 miles is incorrect. They are now 120,000 miles.
The engine the original poster is talking about is not in the US market. I am not sure if it has a belt or a chain. But, as I told the original poster in his thread started in the S40 forum, the US engines with timing chains (B8444S and B63X4X) have lifetime chains.
