Question 1999 C70 Engine Swap

New to the forum. I have found great info in the past. I'm wondering if anyone would know what model year engines would be usable in my 99. I have the T5 2.3 Turbo (B5234T3). My current engine is on it's last legs and would like to know if a newer model would work. Possibly I could find a lower mileage engine from a newer year.

Thx!

I know the 99 and 2000 motors will work but not 100% sure about the 01 and up motors.

TECH, isn't year 2001 the year Volvo changed to the Italian ETM? If so, I would think that that would be the only issue as the block, valve train, and etc would be the same since God was a corporal. With that stated, I should think that any short block that aylamarc found would suffice and only the induction would have to be used from his old engine.

Well there is alot of other things throw in there. One is the VVT setup. In 99 they started VVT. Also another one in there is solid verse hydrolic lifters.

Mainly the blocks stayed the same it was the heads that changed.

So perhaps he could re-use his head and induction?? He did not indicate what was giving up on his engine.........I simply surmised that his bottom end and rings were probably shot.......... By the way TECH, it was 20 degrees below zero in Minnesota this morning. Florida ain't so bad, eh what?

Florida was about 36 here this morning.

Sounded like he just wanted a new motor to refresh the car.

Thanks for the info. The motor is on it's last legs. I think it's the bottom end that's about to go. I'll expand my search beyond 99 in hopes that the head can be swapped over. Reg and Tech, thanks!
