2001 C70 Transmission....PROBLEMS
All right be easy on me and maybe there is a post somewhere....But here it is.....
Quick car specs.. 2001, c70, 104k miles, automatic transmission
Transmission problems: for the past 2k miles my car has been jerking between 1,2, and now 3rd gear. Meaning if i punch it it will revup fine and when it goes between the gears it seems to slip accelerating and decelerating through 1,2,3. slipping clunk is more like it.
Now my solution check as follows:
1. I checked the transmission fluids....it was between the cold and the hot when the car was not started all day. Now I was told to do this after the fact when it was started....what am I looking for as far a nominal operating mark?
2. after pulling out the dipstick and putting it back in, it was cold and the dipstick broke off and now I cannot retrieve it out. Also, where do you add it and what special tranny fluid do I use?
3. I talked to 3 different shops and they said not to worry about it (the dipstick falling in). For You guys out there who know what the heck you are doing: Really...is this safe? They said it would not try to work its way through.
4. I was told that possibly part of the problem was that my chip may needed to be flashed since this is a new discovered problem. any validity to this? some sort of recall for 1999 to 2002.
5. They said I would need a very expensive flash upgrade, a very expensive tranny flush, and expensive synthetic tranny fluid.
Help! I do not know what to believe! What should I do? Can I do this at home....as far as flushing out the tranny and putting this certian fluid in? Any help would be apprciated. Also I have LPT compared to HPT.
Thanks!

1. You check the fluid level after driving for a while it should be at the full level.
2. Me I would get the piece out. Which it is kind of a pain but pull the dipstick tube out and you can get it. Mobil 3309 is the fluid you need. Also you pour it in through the dipstick tube.
3. Again I would get it out.
4. It could need a tranny software upgrade should be $30.00 for the software and 1 hour labor to install it.
5. Check out IPDusa.com they sell a kit so you can do the flush your self at home.

So tech...do you think this is the issue then? Is this a pretty common thing with all of the tranny symptoms I am talking about? Also, when checking the actual fluid...what color do you I want? I am sorry to ask so many lame quetions, but I am trying to learn all of this. I am pretty good once I get it but I am really in the dark on all this. Also, to get all of this done professionally, what will I be looking at$$ wise? Thanks!

You want a redish color fluid. Brown and blacker is dirty.
Alot of time software upgrades will fix alot of problems with these tranny's.
To have the Dealer get the dipstick out I would think it would be a couple of hours labor. Not sure what the labor rate in your area is.
You would be alot better off doing the flush yourself. It will save you quite a bit.

Get this kit http://www.ipdusa.com/product.asp?st...hStartRecord=1
That connects to the top hose on the radaitor for the transmission. Then you start the car and it drains fluid. You watch for bubbles in the hose and shut the car off. Add more fluid into the tranny through the dipstick and start again. Repeat till all the fluid is clean. It usually takes about 12 to 15 quarts.

Thanks Tech...unfortunately, the link comes up "This product is currently unavailable" and does not provide a description so that I cross reference it via google and find another vendor.
There is a small leak around the shaft in the transmission...is there an O ring that needs to be replaced or a full blown seal that requires trans. dissasembly?
