Default 2006 C70 Gas Mileage

I have an '06 C70 with about 2800 miles on it now. EPA ratings on the car were 20/29 if I recall. I know you can't go by those figures but I expected better mileage than I'm getting.

Most of my driving is combination city/highway and I'm getting about 18-19 MPG. I attributed this to my top being down so much in the beginning but I am not getting any better mileage with it up. I'm not heavy on the throttle from stops or anything that would use excessive amounts of fuel. I've been running 91 octane which is the highest available in my area.

I read a consumer review of the C70 on MSN Autos where the poster indicated he saw a C/D article by Weber on this issue and it was an easy fix. I've searched C/D archives using C70 as a search term but can't find anything.

Did anyone here see the article or can you provide any input into this? Is anyone else with the new model '06 or '07 seeing similar results?

I have the 2007 C70 and the mileage isnt any better. I did not realize how small the tank is on this car. I had a G35 Coupe which had an 18 gallon tank.

I am dealing with it as I love my C70...

I drive only city, about four miles each way for a total of eight a day. The car barely has time to warm up and I'm getting 19.3 MPG. IMO that's not bad at all for a heavy convertible.

Default RE: 2006 C70 Gas Mileage

I just took delivery on my 2007 C70 on 10/27/06, the first 2007 received by my dealer. (I ordered it 4/20/06 -- but worth the wait!) Until last week I had only put 80 miles on it (I walk to work), but saw your post and decided to track the mileage on mine with the trip computer. Also, it's a good benchmark for me to use if I feel the mpg is falling as the miles accumulate.

On my Holiday drive from D.C. to Central PA (180 miles up I-270 and Rt 15) -- this was mostly at 55 mph with four major backups in creeping traffic on the highway as well as 30 or so miles of "city-type" driving -- I got 28.0 mpg. The EPA estimate is 29. (and 21 for City) The return trip, which included no backups, the same 30 miles of "city-type" driving, but more accelerating to pass (not bumper-to-bumber traffic like on the way up) and the last 50 miles with the top down (), netted me 26.8 average mpg. [Note: these figures are with 93 octane in the tank, but does that really make a difference to mpg or just to performance?]

I don't know how closely this matches your city/highway mix, but thought I'd pass it on...

Concerning the Weber C/D article -- you may want to search on "T5" rather than "C70" since the article may be about the engine and not specific to our model. I'd appreciate you sharing it with us if you are able to find it.

Best,
John
