Hi All, Newbie Volvo owner. When our xc70 was new it averaged @ 18mph around town went up as high as 18.5 for a couple days then slowly went down now steadly averaging 16.5 mpg with @ 4500 miles driven. Is this normal for this car I was under the impression that mpg would slightly increase as motor breaks in. Dealer says this is "within the stated mpg on window sticker". (lots of help there)
anyway.... anyone with any insight? Thanks and Happy whatever you celebrate!!

 

Is this mileage normal for a 2006? My 2005 xc70 routinely gets 23-24 mpg with a mix of around-town and highway driving. Are you running high-grade gasoline? Does the car ever get any highway miles on it?

 

Hi, 16.5 IS combined, mostly around town and 15% highway. It just seems terrible mileage given that it started out at 18-19 and yes premium fuel for this glutton

 

I have a 2005 XC70 and we get about 18 in the city according to the computer. However, if I calculate it manually, I see that I'm actually getting about 19. Not bad for an AWD large wagon. I notice that the more stop and go you do, the larger the difference is between the calculated and actual gas mileage. Typicall the computer reports a lower number.
